On June 7, 2024, an International Scientific Conference devoted to the 815th Anniversary of Mawlana Jalaluddin Balkhi was officially opened at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France, on the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Ms. Matlubakhon Sattoriyan, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan started the conference with openning remarks.

The purpose of the Conference is to preserve the memory of world-famous Tajik thinker and poet Mawlana Balkhi and to recognize his invaluable contribution to the development of world culture, where the scientists and scholars from all over the world are gathered.

The delegation of Tajikistan led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Farrukh Sharifzoda takes part in the International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS), organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on May 20-24, 2024 in Vienna.

During his speech, F. Sharifzoda informed participants about the situation of nuclear security in the country, measures undertaken by the Government of Republic of Tajikistan under the leadership of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon, as well as the level of international cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with development partners in this direction.

On April 8, 2024, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Swiss Confederation, Mr. Sharaf Sheralizoda met with the Secretary General, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Ms. Rebeca Grynspan.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and UNCTAD in trade facilitation, investment policy review, Public Debt Management, innovation policy review, digitalization of economic sectors, E-Commerce Strategy and other areas of development.

On March 14, 2024, a briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affair of the Republic of Tajikistan with participation of the Co-Chair of the International Advisory Committee of the Dushanbe Water Process, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management, Sulton Rahimzoda, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ismatullo Nasredin, and the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Tajikistan, Lenni Montiel. The briefing focused on the preparation process for the Third Dushanbe Water Conference.

During the briefing, it was noted that this Сonference aims to accelerate actions and strengthen cooperation between countries and other stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including Sustainable Development Goals 6 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Participants were provided with detailed information about the program of the Third International High-Level Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028, which includes interactive dialogues, forums and cultural events.

On 26 February 2024, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Arab Emirates Mr. Bahodur Sharifi attended and delivered a statement at the 1st Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Modern Diplomacy in the Era of Globalization: New Prospects and Implications for Cooperation between the UAE and Central Asia” jointly organized by the Trends Research and Advisory Centre (TRENDS) and the International Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (IICD) in Abu Dhabi.

 

 

 

 

 

B. Sharifi delivered a speech on the theme “The Role of Diplomacy in an Interconnected and Competitive World: Challenges and Opportunities” and drew the attention of the audience to the state and prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as national, regional and international initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan on promotion of issues related to water, climate, peace and security.

Furthermore, the Ambassador participated in the Ambassadorial Round Table and emphasized the significance of using abundant investment opportunities and a favourable business environment in Tajikistan, particularly in the sectors of hydropower, renewable energy, agriculture, mining industry, transport, tourism, science and culture as a suitable approach for further enhancement of mutual cooperation.

These days the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin takes part in the 42nd session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris.

 

 

 

This event started on November 7, 2023 and will last until November 22, 2023. It should be noted that heads of state and government, as well as other high-ranking representatives of countries of the world are participating in this session and its side events.

 

 

 

On the first day, the event was inaugurated by the President of the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference, and the Chairperson of the Executive Board with the Director-General of UNESCO addressed the session at its outset. Subsequently, the elections to the post of the President of the 42nd General Conference took place. During the Conference, the report of the Director-General of UNESCO Ms. Audrey Azoulay on the activities of the Organization in 2018-2021 was also heard. At the end of the first day, the draft UNESCO program and its budget for 2024-2025 and 2026-2029 were discussed and adopted.

 

 

 

On November 9, 2023, the Director-General of UNESCO opened the General Policy Debate with the participation of heads of delegations of member countries of the Organization.

On November 10, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin addressed at these debates. During his speech, the Minister informed the participants about the worthy contribution of Tajiks in the development of science and education and the world civilization. It was emphasized that the founders of an extremely valuable spiritual and intellectual world heritage were Tajik scientists, philosophers, poets, writers and thinkers, such as Abuabdullah Rudaki, Abul-Qasem Firdawsi and Abuali Sina, whose unique works are still considered as an effective scientific and cultural link of world civilization. It was noted that even to this day the Tajik people pay tribute to their customs and other national values, which also have transnational characteristics, and constantly strive to revive and enrich them.

 

 

 

The Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO said that the year 2023 marks 30 years since the beginning of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and UNESCO. During this period, Tajikistan became an active member of UNESCO, the author and co-author of a number of cooperation projects in the field of science, education and culture, and made an effective contribution to the protection and popularization of the cultural and natural heritage of the world. In this regard, Mr. Muhriddin mentioned the inclusion of the natural site “National Park of Tajikistan”, the ancient city of Sarazm, and more recently the state reserve of Tajikistan “Tiger Gully” and the transnational cultural heritage of the Silk Roads: “Zarafshan-Karakum” in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Tajik side expressed its opinion on the active role of the country in promoting water and climate issues within the UN system, including the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation – H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon, related to the preservation of glaciers.

 

 

 

At the end of his speech, the Foreign Minister expressed concern about the complex and catastrophic situation in Afghanistan and Palestine. He reiterated Tajikistan’s call on the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to the suffering people of these two countries as soon as possible and urged for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine to find a solution to this conflict through negotiations.

Our officials who were participating in the conference on Turkish Public Diplomacy, co-hosted by University of South California Annaberg School of Journalism and Yunus Emre Institute on 29 September, 2023, were targeted and harrassed verbally and physically by radical Armenian groups.

 

 

 

The US Diplomatic Security Unit and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) took the necessary security measures to prevent the events, taking place on the University campus, from escalating.

 

 

 

It is worrying that the hate speech by radical diaspora groups, targeting our country and Azerbaijan, and more recently the Armenian Government and the peace process in the region, has evolved into an act of violence. We will initiate the necessary legal process against those who physically assaulted our delegation.

 

 

 

 

This incident demonstrated once again that, distortion of historical events for narrow and local political motives and statements made to please extremist groups embolden radicalization, hate speech and violence.

As of May 2023, Türkiye joined the Group of Friends and Special Representatives of the International Conference On The Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), an organization composed of 12 member states in the Great Lakes Region in Sub-Saharan Africa, which plays an important role in establishing stability, prosperity and security.

Our accession in the aforementioned Group aims to bring in a new dimension to our African Partnership Policy and to our cooperation with the Great Lakes Region, to establish close relations with the ICGLR and to support the activities of the organization. On this occasion, we emphasize once again that Türkiye will continue to support efforts towards strengthening its ties and cooperation with the African Continent in all dimensions.

On May 17, 2023, a meeting of the member states of the Group of Friends on Water was held at the UN headquarters to discuss the outcome of the United Nations 2023 Water Conference (March 22-24, 2023).

 

 

 

 

At this event, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN Jonibek Hikmat, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Yoka Brandt, Deputy Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua and President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Kőrösi participated as panelists and expressed their opinions regarding the results of the Conference, including its main messages and further actions.

The Permanent Representative of the country during his speech, highlighted the success of the Conference, its importance and its significant contribution to global processes such as the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the SDG Summit (September 2023), the 28th UN Climate Change Conference, Summit of the Future (2024).
